It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
